Goldfish written by John Kolvenbach is a play following the struggling relationship of two teenagers (of opposing social class) with dysfunctional parents. This world premiere was commissioned by SCR. My favorite cue was a pivotal moment coming into the top of act 2 out of intemission. This act starts with the father listening to a horserace on the radio - having just wagered his sons college fund - only to discover he lost. The horserace starts out surrounding the audience and gradually collapses down to a broadcast on a table radio in the kitchen. People coming and going through doors plays an integral role as a plot device and there were no doors on the set - nor was there anyplace to hide speakers near where the virtual doors occurred. I took advantage of a matrix of delay-timed speakers that triangulated the position of each door in a very convincing manner. I am very proud to have received a press mention of this: |
