This was my fifth show with SCR. Piazza is a stunningly beautiful musical - but it's the music that makes it such a sound design challenge. SCR used the smaller version of the score - with just piano, harp, bass, violin and cello. At times, the score gets busy and competes with the vocals. This meant the system design had to have control - but control is exactly what fights against a natural and un-reinforced sound. The orchestra was in-veiw upstage and this compounded everything even more. My design goal was to provide the most transparent and open sound possible. I believe I succeeded and even the press took notice.
