Charles Mee's montage play is a caricatural exloration of all things Parisian. One piece of music stands out as my favorite -- the fashion show. Two things jumped out at me: the first was the Mee's stage directions "a runway show (no longer do the models model wearable clothes: now unreality is triumphant)"; and his inclusion of Derrida's essay Structurality of Structure - to narrate the runway. The costume designer chose to make the fashions out of recycled garbage. What I distilled from all of this was house/trance genre dance music with a distinctive Parisian element - of which I chose concertina and guitar - stereotypically absurd... and quite danceable. |
