An updated staging of the Shakespeare classic The Merchant of Venice. This production was set in the 1940's with the town of Belmont in California and Venice in Italy. Musical style references were big band swing for the Belmont themes, the music of Django Reinhardt for the Venetians and a loose reference to klezmer for Shylock and company. Originally staged in January 2012 and transferred to the new outdoor theatre "The New Swan" in the summer of 2012. I served only as composer. The theatre is a very unique portable venue loosely based on historical descriptions of the Elizebethan Swan theatre. It seats 120 and can also fit in the stage house of a large proscenium.
